Roman winery excavated in Abu Qir

A Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA) mission unearthed a winery earthenware amphoras and several statuettes that date back to the Roman era, said SCA Secretary-General Gaballah Ali Gaballah, adding the discovery was made in Tabiat El-Raml area in Abu Qir, Alexandria.
Mohamad Abdul-Maqsoud, Director of Lower Egypt Antiquities, said that this spot is one of the most important monumental areas, adding that small limestone statue with texts in Hieroglyphic that reads "the passage of the great god in his suffering for eternity. I am who appreciates this suffering of the great god master, who remains for the underworld".
He said that finding this statue confirms existence of archaeological elements in the area that date back to the Pharaonic era, adding they were located on the canopic branch of the river Nile before it was covered with earth thousands of years ago.
