USA backs U.N. efforts to settle Sahara issue
Morocco-USA, Politics, 12/6/2001

The United States backs the efforts made by the United Nations to settle the Sahara issue, US ambassador to Morocco, Ms. Margaret Tutwiler said Wednesday.

Ms Tutwiler, who was speaking at a press conference in Rabat, said the issue is "in very capable hands," those of James Baker, the former US Secretary of state with whom she worked for long years.

Baker is an honest man, she said, adding that the Personal envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for the Sahara will spare no effort to find a solution to the issue.

The success of Baker's efforts depend on the parties, she said. "If there is political will a solution will be achieved," she stressed, adding "no body wishes the process to fail."
