At Syria's request, an emergency meeting for the Arab foreign ministers on Sunday
Regional-Syria, Politics, 12/6/2001

The Arab League (AL) council at the level of foreign ministers will hold an emergency meeting on Sunday in Cairo in order to discuss the continued Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people.

In a statement on Wednesday, the AL secretary general Amr Moussa said that this meeting falls at Syria's request and following consultation he had made with the Foreign minister Farouk al-Shara and the Arab foreign ministers.

Syria had earlier asked the convening of an emergency meeting for the Arab foreign ministers instead of the meeting of the Arab follow up committee which was due on Sunday also in Cairo so as all Arab states can take part in the process of discussing the current developments in the occupied Palestinian territories and to taking necessary decisions and recommendations in light of the escalated Israeli threats and escalation and their reflections on the cause of Palestine, the Arab israeli conflict and security and stability in the region.

In the same context a well-informed political source in Doha said that the Organization of the Islamic Conference OIC will be held after the meeting of the Arab foreign ministers an emergency meeting in Doha in which the level of participation had not decided yet.

The source said the time of convening this meeting will be disclosed later.
