News reports said that John Janeh, the spokesman for the al-Ardh al-Muqaddasah ( holy land) society whose assets were frozen by the US President, has denied that this society had financed the Palestinian national resistance Hamas.
Janeh, the spokesman for society, which has Texas as a headquarters said " we do not finance what he had called " terrorists."
Janeh admitted that the society received a huge donation from an official at the political bureau in Hamas Mousa Abu Marzouk. " But we had received this donation in 1992 before his relations ( Abu Marzouk) were strengthened with terrorists.
Janeh explained " during that time there were no questions about his past ( Abu Marzouk). He was then an ordinary man." Janeh added that the society received the great part of the sums used to found it from Abu Marzouk.
Janeh continued that they do not know the evidences put by the investigators who only confiscated sums allocated to orphans, widows and poor families.
To this effect, the US Justice secretary John Ashkroft announced that the: " holy land" society received the great part of the money used for its foundation from Abu Marzouk.
Abu Marzouk had lived in the US until 1993. Then he moved to Jordan and expelled from it in 1995. He is currently living in Damascus.
