People's Assembly condemns Israeli aggression on Palestinians

The Egyptian People's Assembly Arab Affairs Committee condemned all forms of violence and killing of innocent civilians.

The committee also condemned the bloody incidents and the retaliatory raids by Israeli troops against Gaza airstrip, Jenin and the headquarters of Palestinian President Yasser Arafat under the pretext of addressing a message to him to combat terrorism.

It called for distinguishing between terrorism and the legitimate resistance against occupation.

As long as the Israeli occupation exists on the Palestinian territories and the Israeli government suppresses the Palestinians under the pretext of ensuring security, resisting the occupation will remain a legitimate right for the Palestinian people, added the committee.

It regretted the statements by some American officials justifying the Israeli aggressin on the Palestinians as self-defense, adding that the American statements ignored the reality that Israel is occupying Palestinian territories and usurping the rights of the Palestinians.

A statement issued by the committee denounced international organizations turning a blind eye to Israeli crimes, especially the United Nations that, the statement made clear, should provide international protection for the Palestinians.

The statement called on the international community to intensify efforts to stop the terrorist operations by the Israeli side.

The committee backed statements made by President Hosni Mubarak and King Abdullah of Jordan that stressed the importance of returning to the negotiating table and opening the way for diplomatic efforts, especially those started by the American peace envoys.
