Morocco adopts plan to fight AIDS
Morocco, Health, 12/5/2001

Morocco has adopted a strategic plan of struggle against aids covering the 2002-2004 period.

The plan grants priority to reducing vulnerability to HIV infection among youth and vulnerable groups identified in the regions of Casablanca, Agadir, Marrakesh, Tangier, Rabat and Beni Mellal and seeks to improve medical coverage of these groups.

It also provides for access to drugs to ease the medical and social impact on aids infected persons and their families throughout the country and for prevention and early treatment of sexually transmissible diseases.

The plan was drafted on the basis of field studies and analyses of the epidemiological situation and of socio-behavioral data. The results of the studies were debated at the level of three workshops.

According to latest available figures, there are 913 aids cases in Morocco.
