Al-Baz outlines Egypt's position towards current ME developments
Egypt-Regional, Politics, 12/5/2001

The political advisor for the Egyptian President Osama al-Baz has held Israel responsible for the grave escalation taking place in the occupied Palestinian territories as a result of the aggression against the Palestinians.

In a lecture he delivered on Tuesday in Cairo, al-Baz added that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state and Israel's complete withdrawal from the occupied Syrian Golan heights until June 4, 1967 border line is the only way to calm down the deteriorated conditions in the Middle East region.

Al-Baz renewed his country's stand in rejecting the expansion of the scale of the current war in Afghanistan to cover other Arab or Islamic states. He stressed that there is no links of any Arab states to the incidents of September 11 in the USA.

He called for the need of convening an international conference on terrorism in which the concept of terrorism will be identified and to draw the necessary mechanism to fighting it and eliminating it and also to make a distinction between terrorism and the legitimate resistance of occupation.
