The US and terrorism
Regional-USA, Politics, 12/4/2001

The British daily Times issued on Monday said that the CIA has recently sent tens of its agents secretly to Asia and Africa in order to pave the appropriate base for Washington to start the second phase of its war against terrorism and to chase the followers of al-Qaida organization there.

In a report from Washington, the paper added that members from the American Federal Investigation Bureau ( FBI) as well as experts from the Defense department ( the Pentagon) joined later these intelligence elements in order to draw the map of the next military operation against international terrorism at least in seven Asian and African states.

The paper said that countries targeted in Asia and Africa are the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Yemen, Somalia, Tajakistan and Uzbekstan, countries which Washington thinks they have pro- al-Qaida organization members.

The British daily explained that there is also another map drawn by the US for her future operations against terrorism, including countries in Latin America and parts of Europe like Bosnia.

The paper added that targeting terrorism cells in these countries is apart from the American escalated attitude against Iraq, as the American preparations against Iraq have become evident in statements by the US President George Bush or his defense secretary Donald Ramsfeld.

The paper stressed that the US had actually sent intelligence elements and equipment to the Philippines since November to help the local authorities there to destroy the Islamic extremist group of Abu Sayyaf, which was partially founded by Osama Bin laden.
