Suicide operations are triggered by similar acts
Regional-Palestine, Politics, 12/3/2001

Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa said late Sunday that the operation carried out in west Jerusalem, Haifa and Gaza was triggered by similar acts perpetrated by Israel.

In statements, Moussa made it clear that civilians should not be taken as targets in the Palestinian- Israeli conflict.

"The continued Israeli occupation and Israel's hostile policies have caused the current logjam in the crisis," Moussa said.

Israel's constant attacks on civilians resulted in an unprecedented state of frustration, Moussa added.

News reports said that Haifa's events earlier in the day came in response to Israel's assassination of a Palestinian politician whose name was included in an official Israeli list, Moussa said.

The message conveyed denotes that as long as Israel continues its physical liquidation of Palestinian activists, the Palestinian retaliation would continue, according to Moussa.

As regards the Mitchell peace plan, Moussa told reporters that the Israeli government has been always foiling any attempt to return the Middle East peace process back on track.

"Sharon insists on a seven-day cooling-off period in occupied Palestinian territories," Moussa said.

It seems that Palestinian should firstly stand hand-folded until Sharon says (good boys... your are now polite), he added

"The latest American initiative announced by US Secretary Colin Powell did not include the seven preconditions, "the Arab League Chief said.

"Israel should comply with Mitchell's report and CIA Director George Tenet's paper among other matters, "Moussa said.

Sharon, on his part, announced another reading of Mitchell and Tenet's reports, Moussa added.

He urged Sharon to implement the original text of proposed peace plans, not his personal reading of them.

Moussa voiced hope that the US would play a more effective role as regards the Palestinian Israeli conflict.

An effective American and European role would help in stopping settlement activities, Moussa said.

The West Jerusalem, Haifa and Gaza operations should not be taken by Sharon as a pretext for balking at implementing Mitchell's report.

Arafat, on his part, welcomed cooperation with Israel despite its demolishing of 12 houses in khan Yunis.

Moussa, meanwhile, expressed belief that the US and EU currently pressuring Sharon to comply with the agreements and implement the Mitchell and Tenet reports.
