Mauritania's military body is split over diplomatic relations with Israel

A European diplomatic report in Paris has unveiled a drastic division in the Mauritania' s military body because of the diplomatic relations with Israel.

The report said Mauritania's President Mu'aweya Wild Sayed Ahmad al-Taye' quitted the commander of the military intelligence and five of army contingents according to information given to him by the chairman of the Israeli Mossad station in Nouakchott, which stressed that they prepare their military units to topple the regime.

Meantime, large number of Mauritania's military men, known for their rejection to establish diplomatic relations with Israel were arrested and tortured in the camps before they were fired from their service.

The report which was quoted by the Lebanese daily al-Deyar issued on Saturday, also quoted the secretary general of the democratic front to resisting normalization with Israel in Mauritania as saying that the Israeli intelligence body ( Mossad) has several branches in Mauritania, noting that such branches are now existed on Mauritania's borders with bordering states.

He explained that the Israeli embassy in Mauritania is under a tough security measures by the army and the police and the Israeli ambassador stayed for a long time without an official headquarters because the people refused to rent him a house.

The secretary general of the democratic front for resisting normalization indicated that the US is making strong pressures on the President of Mauritania to limit his country's bilateral relations with each of Syria, Libya, Iraq and the Palestinian Authority for giving economic aids to Mauritania and starting oil fields investments through American oil exploration companies.

The diplomatic report added that more than 100 Israeli experts are in Mauritania to give technical aids in the agricultural field, apart from an intensive Israeli presence in the fishing area where the Israeli fleet carries out the fishing operation and exports the fish abroad for a percentage of profits given to the government of Mauritania.
