Fatimid mosque to be opened in Bahnasa after restoration
Egypt, History, 12/1/2001
The Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA) finished restoring and rejuvenating the Al-Hassan Bin Saleh Mosque in Al-Bahnasa, which dates back to the Fatimid era.
"The Mosque, the oldest in Al-Menyia governorate, will receive Muslim worshippers on the occasion of the holy fasting month of Ramadan," said Abdullah al-Altar, Head of the Islamic Antiquities Sector.
"The restoration project is aimed at returning the mosque to its original status and maintaining its historical and archaeological features," said Attar.
On the other hand, Cairo Governor Abdul Rehim Shehata said that the government allocated L.E. 850 million in the state budget to refurbish historical Cairo within a 1997-2002 five-year plan.
He added that 51 historical Egyptian antiquities were restored, in addition to 33 others under restoration in association with the SCA.
