King Mohammed meets outgoing UN representative for the Sahara
Morocco, Politics, 12/1/2001
Morocco's King Mohammed VI met in Smara Friday William Eagleton, outgoing special representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for the Sahara.
The meeting was attended by Hamid Chabbar, governor in charge of coordination of the MINURSO (French acronym for UN mission for the referendum in the Sahara).
U.N. Secretary-General, Kofi Annan, appointed last month William Lacy Swing as his new special representative for the Sahara.
Swing (United States), who replaces William Eagleton, will take up his post as of December 1st.
Eagleton assumed the post for two years and a half.
In a letter to the Security Council, Annan voiced gratitude to Eagleton for the way he led the MINURSO.
The Security Council approved Swing's appointment.
