Egypt presents draft to UNGA on Palestinians' right to their natural resources
Egypt-Palestine, Politics, 11/30/2001

Egypt has presented a draft resolution to the UN General Assembly (UNGA) on the permanent sovereignty of the Palestinian people over the occupied Palestinian lands including Jerusalem and also the Arab residents in the occupied Golan Heights over their natural resources. Egyptian permanent delegate to the UN Ambassador Ahmed Abul Gheit said.

He noted that the draft resolution is based on the international legitimacy resolutions that underline the principle of permanent sovereignty of peoples under foreign occupation over' their natural resources and also the UN Charter.

He added that the draft further affirms that the Geneva Convention on protection of civilians at wartime applies to the Palestinian people in the occupied lands including Jerusalem and other Arab territories occupied by Israel since 1967.

Fighting international terrorism requires policies and measures that are not just limited to military or security action, but also a great degree of awareness and understanding to settle on ways to combat it on the global level, he added.

Abul Gheit was speaking to a symposium organized by the Economist Weekly Tuesday night.

He expressed belief that many of the ideas that the West tries to use as a cause for international terrorism were inaccurate.

"Any attempt to link terrorism to Islam is unjust and untrue, "he said.
