Regional-Vatican, Politics, 11/30/2001
The spokesman for the Vatican Jawakin Nvaro Vales said on Wednesday that Pope John Paul II will hold a summit bringing him together with all Catholic patriarchs and heads of the Catholic communities in the Middle East on December 13 in the Vatican.
The spokesman explained that" the meeting which the Pope wants to be personal will discuss the issue of the future of Christians in the occupied territories." He added " that the Pope wants, on the ground of the critical situation in the holy lands, to reaffirm his " spiritual" solidarity, once again with the people of the region and to share them their daily sufferings because of the acts of violence and discrimination."
The spokesman added that " this meeting will avail testimonies to show the common commitment to defending the existence of Christians, especially Catholics in this area since generations."
