King Faisal's international award for 2001

The commission of King Faisal's award has announced offering its awards for this year to the ruler of Sharja Sheikh Sultan al-Qasimi, to the two the Syrian and Jordanian men of letters Husam al-Khatib, and Hosni Mahmoud, respectively and to four foreign scientists. They are two Americans, one Swedish and one Russian.
The chairman of the commission prince Khaled al-Faisal Bin Abdul Aziz announced on Tuesday evening awarding the " Islam service prize" to the ruler of al-Sharja Emirate Sheikh Sultan Bin Muhammad al-Qasimi as an appreciation for his efforts in carrying out educational and health projects in several parts of the world.
A statement by the Saudi news agency said that an award was offered to Dr. al-Khatib as an appreciation for his efforts in studying the modern Palestinian Arab literature and Arab literary criticism inside Palestine and in the Diaspora.
The statement added that Hosni was awarded a prize for his studies and researches and contributions to the Palestinian Arab literature.
Worthy mentioning the total value of prizes offered by King Faisal's international prize, which was founded by the late King's eight sons of the Third Saudi Kings in 1976 just one year after his assassination in 1975, totals 3.750 million Saudi riyals ( USD one million).
