On Italian ambassador embracing of Islam
Regional-Italy, Politics, 11/29/2001

A high ranking official at the Italian foreign ministry said Italy's ambassador to Saudi Arabia Torkwato Kardilley embracing of Islam is a personal matter.

In the renowned TV political program " from door to door" the Italian deputy foreign minister Margaretta Boniver noted a similar case with ambassador Mario Shelolya who embraced Islam and was summoned to Italy to explain his position in a measure which is just limited to a routine consultation.

Meantime member of the European parliament for the " North League" part which takes part in the ruling coalition in Italy Mario Borgizio said that what was described as worrying news concerning the Italian ambassador in Saudi Arabia embracing of Islam constitutes a grave and sensitive problem regarding expected total commitment of an ambassador towards the country he represents.
