Morocco, Local, 11/28/2001
Moroccan Gendarmerie agents arrested Monday evening in a forest, located some 16 km to the south-west of the northern city of Tangier, 22 candidates to illegal emigration.
These candidates, mostly from sub-Saharan Africa, were arrested during a combing operation along the Atlantic coast, gendarmerie sources said.
The group, including two Moroccans, was hiding in the forest awaiting better weather conditions to sail towards southern Spain. The group members will be sent to court after investigation is over.
