Syrian- Egyptian summit

The Saudi daily al-Jazira has stated that a Syrian- Egyptian summit is under preparation to discuss the possibility of the expansion of the American strike to Arab states.

In its Tuesday's issue, the paper said that the summit which comes after the visit of President Mubarak to Saudi Arabia and Libya aims at formulating an Arab stand towards the possibility of striking Arab states or areas in the framework of the international alliance moves against terrorism.

The paper explained that the expected Syrian- Egyptian summit will on top of its topics deal with the position towards the Hizbullah party and the reflections of targeting it by the US as a terrorism- backing side, according to Washington as well as the impact of that on the Syrian track, the Syrian- American relations in particular as well as the reflections of overall Arab positions and stances.

The paper added that the Arab diplomacy with its " golden triangle," Damascus, Cairo and al-Riyadh is trying to materialize the vision of the US secretary of state Colin Powell, despite the Israeli impediments embodied in the brutal attacks against the Palestinian people, practicing the policy of assassination of the Palestinian leaders as well as the Israeli invasion of the Palestinian authority territories.

The paper added that the important thing in the moves of the " Golden triangle" is to achieve the aim of establishing the Palestinian state and avert American strikes to the Arab region and attain an Arab consensus towards the Afghani issue that does not threaten the Arab regional interests of any country in the Arab region.
