US intention to topple the Iraqi president, paper says

The Turkish daily " Daily News" said in its Monday's issues that the increased possibilities on that the US will use its war against terrorism in Afghanistan as a pretext to topple the Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, a matter which pushed each of Turkey and Iraq to take military measures against each other.

The paper added that Iraq has started following the terrorist attacks which targeted the US to strengthen positions of its army in the oil- rich area of Karkouk and in al-Mousel and Dohouk areas which adjoin Turkey and these measures are of fears of the Turkish intervention into the Iraqi territories.

The paper said that Turkey might seize al-Mousel if the US will direct a military strike at Iraq, despite the fact that no one of the Turkish officials has admitted that this might happen.

On the other hand, the Turkish daily Millet said that Turkey feels great concern over the possibility of launching an American military attack against Iraq, noting that Ankara has stressed clearly that its stands against this American step.
