Qatar-Israel, Politics, 11/26/2001
The Israeli regional co-operation minister Rony Milo has unveiled that he did not feel any sort of Arab boycott of Israel during the World Trade Conference recently held in Doha.
In an exclusive statement with the Kuwaiti daily al-Rai al-Am issued on Sunday, the Israeli minister spoke about the activities and the great interest given to the Israeli delegation in Qatar, noting that the participation of the Israeli delegation in the conference was made without problems or objections and that it was cordially welcomed at the airport and escorted by " polite" security men who protected members of the delegation as if it is for the Israeli prime minister.
Milo who seemed very happy, said that the main aim on which concentration was made during the talks was economic co-operation and opening channels with the Arabs in order to proceed forward through joint trade and economic agreements.
Milo criticized the Arab media which depict the Israelis as being from a repressive country which kills children and just giving a blind eye for what the Palestinians are doing.
He said that among the important matter the Israeli delegation attained during this participation is the meeting with several Arab journalists and holding of press conferences with all Qatari media as well as interviews with Gulf papers and al-Jazira TV station and also with participating delegations.
He said that the Israeli delegation was invited to parties where the Qatari folklore was performed and that they sent a " letter of thanks" to the organizers of the conference and to the government of Qatar over this successful conference and the great welcome the Israeli delegation had received during its stay in Qatar.
