A Syrian government before Eid al-Fiter
Syria, Politics, 11/26/2001

The United Arab Emirates UAE daily al-Bayan and the Saudi daily al-Riyadh have quoted official diplomatic sources as saying that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad will appoint a new government before Eid al- Fiter.

The sources added that President Bashar al-Assad has appointed a committee chaired by vice- President Abdul Halim Khaddam to choose the new ministry which is expected to include experts and academicians in order to implement economic reforms Syria is drastically in need of..

On the other hand, news reports in Damascus said, according to Baath Party sources that President al-Assad will assign the prime minister Muhammad Mustafa Miro to form the new government during the few coming days because he is one member of the six-member committee authorized by the Baath Party regional leadership to evaluate and make assessment for the work of ministers and to study the nomination for the new cabinet and submit the study to the President.

The reports added that the central command of the National Progressive Front asked its parties to nominate 4 figures to occupy ministerial posts in the new cabinet- reshuffle.

Expectations indicate that there will be a change in the 13 ministerial bags assumed by new ministers in the current government.
