UN committee discusses economic, social effects of Israeli occupation
Regional-Israel, Politics, 11/24/2001
The UN economic committee discussed the economic and social effects of the Israeli occupation on living conditions of the Palestinian people in the occupied Palestinian lands including Jerusalem, and on Arab residents in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights.
Addressing the committee, Egypt's permanent delegate to the UN Ahmed Abul Gheit said that this issue has been handled within the UN framework for years, but no tangible progress has been made as regards the ability of the real residents under the Israeli occupation to exploit their natural resources, he added.
He said that this matter reflects an organized planning by the Israeli occupier to usurp the land and use the natural resources.
He pointed out that the Israeli occupation authorities continue their violation of the rights of the Palestinian people and the Arab residents in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights preventing them from exploiting their natural and economic resources despite the international legitimacy resolutions in this respect.
