Missing part of Ptolemy II statue found near Qait Bay Citadel

The Egyptian-Italian team excavating at the coastal site of Qait Bay Citadel in Alexandria has reported finding the missing part of the statue of Ptolemy II which currently stands at the entrance of Bibliotheca Alexandrina.
Gaballah Ali Gaballah Secretary General of the Supreme Counsel for Antiquities ( SCA ) said that now the arms and part of the foot are found the statue will restore its glamour.
Meanwhile, Gaballah said that a tomb dating back to the early Ptolemaic age was found on Nelson Island.
Beside the tomb carved in sand rock there was foundation of some Ptolemaic houses Preliminary discoveries indicating that the structures were administrative ones.
Mohamed Abdul Maqsoud Director of Lower Egypt Antiquities said that a cistern 14.5 metres long and 2 metres high bearing inscriptions belonging to the Byzantine age was also found on the island.
The outer walls of the cistern included names and dates related to Abi Qir battle that took place between Britain and France in the end of the 18th century AD. Mr. Abdul Maqsoud said two coins dating to the second century AD bearing a picture of Emperor Antoninus were unearthed.
