Israeli tanks exchange fire in the Golan
Syria-Israel, Politics, 11/22/2001
Teams of three Israeli tanks exchanged fire during a military exercise carried out by one of the Israeli military teams in the Golan in October.
An Israeli military spokesman admitted the incident, stressing that a tank opened fire at two tanks running in front of it and this resulted in wounding several soldiers who were on its towers, one of them, an officer, was seriously wounded.
The spokesman attributed the reason behind the incident what is called the " field failure" and non prior co-ordination among the participants in these exercises.
The spokesman indicated that number of killed soldiers or officers in the Israeli army during the military exercises held in this year doubled twice the number of soldiers killed as a result of the Palestinian Intifada.
The Israeli Hebrew language radio gave no mention to the number of Israeli soldiers or officers who were killed either in the military exercises nor the incidents of the Palestinian Intifada.
