Powell: Peace is possible according to UN resolutions 242, 338

The US secretary of state Colin Powell has stressed the need of establishing a comprehensive peace in the region and ending the Israeli occupation according to UN security council resolutions 242, 338 and the land for peace formula.

In a speech he delivered on Monday evening and quoted by world's TV stations Powell said that " we have now to concentrate on peace instead of war," adding that it is now the right time to look forward and to try to revive the spirit of the Madrid conference in order to create a new hope and a common objectives for the peoples of the Middle East.

He added:" the US has a positive vision in this regard. We want to share with our friends in 'Israel' and the Arab world. This vision states that 'Israel' and the Palestinian state should exist side by side within secure borders and reciprocated recognition."
