EU delegation fails in Israel
Palestine-European Union, Politics, 11/20/2001

The European Union EU delegation has failed to smooth the intransigence stances of the Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon. A matter which is considered a new setback for the international efforts aiming at establishing peace in the region.

News reports said the EU delegation currently chaired by the Belgian prime minister and the chairman of the EU commission Romano Prodi failed in convincing the Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon to give up his precondition to halt what he called all forms of violence for seven days before starting to implement the Michael package plan which aims at resuming negotiations between the Palestinians and the Israelis.

The reports added that Sharon also refused the call made by the high- ranking European delegation to release sums deposited for the Palestinian authority relating to customs tariffs.
