Mubarak sends message to Musharraf on Afghanistan
Egypt-Afghanistan, Politics, 11/19/2001

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak sent a message to Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf, to be conveyed by Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher, who arrived in Islamabad Sunday on a two-day visit to Pakistan.

The message tackles the latest regional developments and stresses the Afghan people's right to choose their government.

Hours before Maher arrived in Islamabad, a Pakistani official has described the visit as very important.

Spokesman for the Pakistani Foreign Ministry Aziz Khan told Middle East News Agency that Maher will also hold talks with senior officials on the situation in Afghanistan, other issues of mutual interest and promotion of bilateral cooperation, added khan.

Since assuming-power on October 12, 1999, Musharraf has visited twice Egypt where he discussed with Mubarak the feasibility of boosting the two countries' relations.

In a recent address, Musharraf lauded the role of Al Azhar in projecting the moderate image of Islam. Al Azhar is the Muslim world's oldest and most revered site of religious learning.
