Lahhoud stresses to US delegation the legitimacy of Lebanese resistance
Lebanon-USA, Politics, 11/19/2001

The Lebanese President Emil Lahoud has stressed that the US is called upon at the meantime, especially following the recent developments in Afghanistan to embark on an objective vision towards crisis which cause unrest in the world, including the crisis in the Middle East and to start reviving the ME peace process, already frozen by Israel as a result of its aggressive practices.

The Lebanese President also stressed the need of making a breakthrough in the negotiations on all tracks with the aim to achieving just and comprehensive peace in the region, according to basics set by the Madrid conference.

President Lahoud stressed the need of guaranteeing the right of the Palestinians to return back to their territories and to reject settling them in Lebanon considering that if a just solution based on international legitimacy resolutions will be maintained for the Palestinian question, the Palestinian, for the long run, will be one of the elements of instability in the region.

The Lebanese President informed the US congressmen delegation that Lebanon which denounced terrorism firmly in all its forms, had also denounced the attacks against New York and Washington on September 11 and that he sees the need of dealing with reasons that might lie behind stances and practices of terrorist nature.

On Sunday President Lahoud received at Baa'bda palace the US congressmen delegation which is in a tour to several countries in the ME including Darrell Issa, Nick Rahhal, John Coxy and Brian Kernez.

Following the meeting Issa described the meeting with President Lahoud as excellent and dealt with all issues the delegation wanted to know Lebanon's position towards them.
