Al-Jazira TV correspondent detained mistakenly in Texas
Qatar-USA, Politics, 11/16/2001

The FBI said on Thursday that a correspondent for the Qatari al-Jazira TV was detained temporarily at an American airport because of a mistake in defining his identity and was released later.

News reports said that Muhammad al-Alami told al-Jazira by telephone he was detained at Wako airport in Texas upon arriving there from Washington, in order to investigate his identity after it was found out he used for buying his plane ticket a credit card from a company linked to Afghanistan.

Worthy mentioning that until few days al-Jazira TV was the only TV station permitted by Taliban movement to broadcast from Kabul during the attacks launched by the US. On Thursday the US warplanes bombarded al Jazira offices in Kabul. A matter which forced its employee to leave both Kabul and Qandahar in the southern of Afghanistan.
