Optimistic figures on exports to foreign markets
Egypt, Economics, 11/14/2001

Exports to Russian, African, Poland, Germany, and Hong Kong were on the rise during the first six months of the year, recent reports by the Trade Representation Authority have said.

Advisor to the Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade, Rushdi Abdul-Kader, said that exports to the Russian market during the first half of the year had risen by 119 per cent compared to the same period last year.

In addition, the trade representation offices had provided 18 opportunities for exporting Egyptian products to the Russian market as from January to August 2001.

As for the Polish market, exports rose by 32.4 per cent during the period of January-June 2001 compared to the same period of the previous year.

Regarding for the African markets, the reports showed that Egyptian exports were on the rise to the Kenyan market by 38 per cent during the first six months of the year. Exports to Algeria, Ethiopia and the Sudan also rose.

By the same token, the Egyptian Trade Representation Office in Hong Kong had managed to introduce new Egyptian products into the market there such as generators and tobacco.

Also the Egyptian Trade Representation Office in San Francisco had managed to increase exports to the US Western Coast states by 38 percent during the period from January to August 2001.

In the same way efforts by the Berlin office have helped exports rise by 16.1 per cent during the first six months of the year.

Abdul-Kader stressed the fact that the Egyptian trade representation offices abroad were working harder to open new prospects for Egyptian exports in foreign markets.

"This is part of the national strategy for enhancing exports to world markets," he said.
