Alexandria Library restores city's former glory
Egypt, Local, 11/13/2001
"The new Alexandria Library has restored the Mediterranean city's international prestige and become a beacon of culture and civilization," library Director Ismail Serrag el-Din said yesterday.
"The project of reviving the Bibilotheque Alexandrina returned the city's glory not only in the Mediterranean area, but at a world level," he added.
Serrag el-Din said that the new library includes three museums and five specialised research institutes. Its shelves contain 200,000 books on every field of science and information.
It also includes a digital library of books manuscripts and papyri written before the invention of printing, allowing all researchers to obtain copies of these valuable documents.
