Grand Imam of Al-Azhar: Islam is religion of peace, justice, tolerance
Egypt, Religion, 11/13/2001
Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Mohammed Sayed Tantawi, said that Islam is the religion of peace, justice and tolerance. He added that terrorism, in all its forms, is rejected by Islam.
This came in Sheikh Tantawi's statements before departing from Riyadh, where he took part in the Universal conference on the twentieth anniversary of King Fahd's ascendance to the throne.
"Though we show sympathy to the American people, we do not agree on punishing a whole nation in retaliation for a crime committed by individuals who have not been proved guilty yet," Sheikh Tantawi said.
"A terror-stricken state has the right to search for culprits to bring them into trial before a judiciary authority. But it has no right to fight a whole nation killing the innocent women, children and the aged for the crime that was committed by culprits who fled their homeland," Sheikh Tantawi concluded.
