Resistance against occupation isn't terrorism
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 11/12/2001
An Arab member to Israeli Knesset said that the Knesset's decision stripping him of parliamentary immunity is part of Israeli right wing to impose hegemony on power in Israel.
Azmi Bishara, the Knesset member, told A1 Ahram that the decision on dropping his parliamentary immunity was unprecedented step in the Israeli history.
"Knesset's decision stressed that Israel is a non-democratic state as the Jewish style of democracy excludes the Arabs," he said.
"The Arab, national tide of the Arab Israelis arouses Israel's worry," he said.
The legal pursuit measures against him begin after his statements, he made in Um Alfahm city on the occasion of the liberation of South Lebanon anniversary, Bishara said, referring to his statements on the right of the peoples to continue resistance against the occupation forces.
"The Israeli police conducted three investigations with me on the statements," he said.
The people's resistance against the occupation forces is not terrorism as it is an internationally recognized right, Bishara said, adding that terrorism is part of the Israeli government's policy.
"The Arab Israelis are completely sympathized with the Palestinian Intifada which is considered a legitimate resistance against the occupation," he said.
"As to future of peace process between the Palestinians and Israelis, Bishara said there is no sign of possible breakthrough in Sharon's stage as the latter's policies are designed to gain time, impose fait accompli, shake the Palestinian people's will and blackmail the Palestinian Authority to get political gains," he added.
"Sharon has no political scheme on political settlement with the Palestinians," he added.
