Palestinian question, international terrorism: German priorities

German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder gives high priority to the Middle East question, said German ambassador in Cairo Baron, Paul Von Maltzahn.
Praising the friendly ties between Egypt and Germany Maltzahn said German Foreign Minister is paying visits to Cairo for reviewing the Middle East file.
The German government is also interested in giving scholarships to the Egyptians, he said, noting that the number of Egyptian scholars in Germany hit 700.
The new German university in Cairo would be inaugurated next year, he said, adding that the university would focus on the communications, information technology and business administration.
The Egyptian-German trade exchange reached DM 4 billion, he said, praising the remarkable activity Daimler-Chrysler carries out in Egypt.
As to the international terrorism, he said Germany denounced the terrorist attack against the United States on September 11 and backed Washington-led anti-terrorism campaign.
Germany also helped friendly countries combat terrorism, he said, adding that his country also made proposals to curb terrorism.
Germany also called for fighting the money laundering, he said.
German Chancellor Schroeder during his talks with President Hosni Mubarak said Europe will fight the roots of terrorism not terrorism only.
Germany took stringent measures to protect the citizens against chemical war, he said.
As to the Palestinian question, the German ambassador said Schroeder gives priority for the Palestinian question, referring to German foreign minister's recent visit to Israel and Palestinian self-rule area.
