Mubarak's address to Formentor Forum set matters in right perspective

"President Hosni Mubarak's address to the Formentor Forum Spain clearly defined the issues of Middle East peace, dialogue of civilizations and terrorism," Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher said.

The President spelled out the precise principles and pave the proper road for their settlement, he told Cairo Radio Wednesday from Brussels where he attended the Barcelona process Foreign Ministers meetings.

"Europeans have a genuine desire to move with the US to clarify matters at the Middle East peace talks," He said.

Regarding issues discussed at these meetings, he said they were of security and political nature, such as fighting terrorism and the Middle East problem.

The foreign ministers agreed on the necessity to reach settlement on conditions in the Middle East, that the rights of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state be respected, and that Israeli security had to be provided.

The European position was very clear in rejecting the Israeli practices and in calling on Palestinians and Israelis stop the violence, he added.

He said the issue of the anti-Arab and anti-Muslim propaganda in Europe and the U.S., was addressed and the European Foreign Ministers totally denounced what Arabs and Muslims in some parts of the western world were subjected to.

A European stance towards the resumption of Middle East talks is in the making, and within this context, British Prime Minister Tony Blair will visit the US. and French President Jacques Chirac will visit Egypt, he added.
