Maher criticizes Peres's statements before Euro- Mediterranean meeting
Egypt-Israel, Politics, 11/8/2001

Egypt's foreign minister Ahmad Maher has criticized the statement made by the recent speech made by the Israeli foreign minister before the Euro- Mediterranean conference and said that Peres deliberately distorted facts in order to avoid tackling basic matters.

In a statement to SANA's correspondent in Brussels on Wednesday, Maher added that Peres made accusations against others without giving any evidences to what he said.

Maher doubted Peres's intention towards holding talks with the Palestinians. He stressed the need of Israel's realization that Israel's interest lies in reaching a just peace with the Arabs because realizing such a peace will be the only guarantee for security and stability in the region.

Maher also stressed that the genuine and only way to peace is through sincere negotiations on the ground of international legitimacy resolutions.
