Mubarak receives British secretary of State for defense

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on Tuesday received British Secretary of State for defense Geoggrey Hoon, who arrived yesterday on a two-day visit to Egypt.
Commander-in-Chief, Minister of Defence and Military Production Field Marshal Mohammed Hussein Tantawi and British ambassador to Egypt John Sawers attended the meeting.
After meeting Mubarak, Hoon held talks with Tantawi and then gave a press conference at the British embassy on the results of his visit to Egypt.
The aim of the visit is to continue consultations with the Egyptian leadership on all aspects of' fighting terrorism and bilateral military cooperation.
In statements following his meeting with President Hosni Mubarak, Hoon said they dealt with the situation in Afghanistan and the continued pressure on Taliban movement through striking its forces and military establishments.
He added that discussions also touched on the Middle East situation, means of ending violence and the importance of resuming peace negotiations.
He said that he seized this opportunity to convey to President Mubarak the greetings and best wishes of British Prime Minister Tony Blair.
He added that President Mubarak entrusted him with carrying a similar message that also included the latest developments in the Middle East peace process.
In reply to a question on the anti-terrorism campaign, Hoon said that both Egypt and Britain have long experience in dealing with terrorism.
He added that President Mubarak had strongly condemned terrorism and supported anti-terror efforts.
Concluding his visit to Egypt, Hoon left Cairo on Tuesday after holding meetings with President Mubarak and Field Marshal Tantawi.
