The parliament to begin its new session
Egypt, Politics, 11/7/2001

The Egyptian parliament is to begin its new session, with activities in both the upper and lower houses, a state source said.

The Parliamentary Body of the ruling National Democratic Party (NDP) yesterday approved the re-nomination of Ahmed Fathi Sorour as the Speaker of the People's Assembly (PA) and named both Amal Othman and El-Sayed Rashid as deputies to the Speaker, the source said.

The source added that the Shura Council would hold its first meeting today under the chairmanship of Moustafa Kamal Helmi in compliance with a presidential decree issued by President Hosni Mubarak.

The Council meeting will discuss six draft bills pertaining to the vital organ transplants, Chambers of Commerce bylaws, State Council regulations, government expenditure, and reorganisation of the eye bank and state prisons.
