Peres confers with Arafat

The chairman of the Palestinian Authority Yasser Arafat on Monday evening in Brussels met with the Israeli foreign minister Shimon Peres. The meeting was attended by the Belgian premier and with the Foreign minister.

The Israeli radio said that the EU ME special envoy Miguel Moratinos, the International co-operation official at the Palestinian Authority and the foreign relations official at the European Union Javier Solana attended the said meeting.

Both Peres and Arafat refused to make statements after the meeting, but Israeli sources stressed that Peres asked Arafat again for halting the Palestinian Intifada and to arrest Palestinians wanted by Israel as a set precondition to achieve a progress in the negotiations with it ( Israel).
