Mubarak interested in furthering relations with EU
Egypt-European Union, Politics, 11/6/2001

"President Hosni Mubarak is interested in furthering relations with the European Union (EU) as well as European countries overlooking the Mediterranean Sea,' said Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher.

'Mubarak's participation in the Forementor forum in Palma de Malloca is a case in point as he offered Egypt's view over the European -Arab cooperation and focused on the importance to have an inter-civilization dialogue,' said Maher.

In statements he made on the sidelines of the 5th ministerial conference of member states of the Barcelona process on Euro-Mediterranean cooperation which was inaugurated Monday by Belgian Foreign Minister Louis Michel in Brussels, Maher said the EU is currently working on effectuating its role in the Middle East region.

The Euro-Mediterranean forum falls within the context of efforts exerted to forge this stand, he added.

Maher is expected to address the European institute for Mediterranean research and Arab -European cooperation to expound on the Egyptian perspective on the Barcelona process.

Meanwhile Maher denied any tension marring Egyptian-US relations as alleged by some US press reports.

In statements to reporters Monday, remarked that the US administration is totally appreciating the role played by President Hosni Mubarak.
