Peres: France provided us with nuclear energy
Israel-France, Military, 11/6/2001

The Israeli foreign minister Shemon Peres has disclosed that France in 1956 approved to provide Israel with nuclear energy. This was expressed in a documentary film broadcast by the Israeli TV on Sunday.

Peres said in the said film which was under the title " the hidden bomb " that France agreed " to provide us not only by a nuclear reactor but also with uranium during Sifer conference near Paris in October 1956 during the secret negotiations between the two countries on the preparation for the Swiss operation ( the tripartite, US, Israeli and French aggression) against Egypt."

Peres at that time was a director general at the Israeli ministry of defense and was in charge of the Israeli nuclear program. Peres had also firm and very close relations at highest levels with the French military and French officials under the rule of the socialist government led by Ghee Molleit.

Peres added that thanks to France's support Israel could build the Demon nuclear station in Negev desert without informing the US about that. A matter for which the US blamed Israel later on.
