Egypt's ME denuclearization initiative by UN's COD

"The United Nations' Committee on disarmament (COD) approved two important draft resolutions on Nuclear Non-Proliferation in the Middle East and rendering the region free from nuclear weapons," said Egypt's permanent delegate to the UN ambassador Ahmed Abul-Gheit.
"Endorsing the Egyptian draft resolution on nuclear non-proliferation in the Middle East by an overwhelming majority represented a clear message from the international community that nuclear weapons in the Middle East possessed only by one country namely Israel-must be dismantled, "said Abul Gheit.
The draft resolution is so important as it coincides with the latest developments inside Palestinian lands and hence it implies a clear political significance expressing the international community's inclination to eliminate the Israeli nuclear menace, a main obstacle before achieving regional security in the Middle East.
"Egypt will follow up this affair in the months to come within the 1st preparatory meeting of the 7th conference on reviewing the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), to be held at the UN premises in New York next April, "said Abul -Gheit.
The two draft resolutions will be referred to the UN General Assembly for voting.
Meanwhile, Abul Gheit told Swat AL Arab radio station that Egypt refutes the Israeli endeavors to falsify the facts during discussions of Palestinian refugees.
The Egyptian delegation has explained the falsehood in the Israeli statement on the Palestinian refugees case. The Palestinian refugees ran away from their homes after the massacres Israel committed against the armless Palestinians as in Deir Yassin.
Egypt has introduced evidence on the Israeli plots against the Palestinians issued from Israel itself.
