Saudi Arabia-Regional, Politics, 11/2/2001
The Saudi minister of the Interior prince Nayef Bin Abdul Aziz stressed on October 29 Saudi Arabia's support for convening an international conference.
News reports quoted prince Nayef as calling for discussions either through a conference or organizing any event under the umbrella of the UN to discuss terrorism, its reasons and to conclude an international agreement to this effect.
Prince Nayef refused to consider resistance against the Israeli occupation made by the Palestinian people to be listed within what is called terrorism. He stressed that actual terrorism is the occupation of the lands of others, which is carried out by Israel. He added that Saudi Arabia hopes to have a quick end to the American attacks at Afghanistan because of damages inflicted on the civilians.
Replying to a question on if Saudi Arabia making efforts to end the attacks before the beginning of Ramadan month which begins in the mid of November, prince Nayef said Saudi Arabia is against terrorism and terrorists, noting that eliminating terrorism in the world needs a joint international effort.
The Saudi minister added that no Saudi was arrested in the Kingdom in connection to the incidents of September 11 and if one Saudi suspected is found he will be tried inside Saudi Arabia.
