Egypt-Palestine, Politics, 11/1/2001
Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak held talks immediately upon arrival in Spain today with Spanish Premier Jose Maria Aznar on joint cooperation, Middle East crisis and international terrorism after which they gave a joint press conference, the President will later be received by King Juan Carlos.
Mubarak warned against the dangerous consequences of continued violence in the Middle East, noting that achieving peace in the region was unavoidable.
At a joint press conference held today afternoon in Madrid with Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar after their talks, Mubarak said the Palestinians were struggling to attain their rights, and not practicing terrorism.
The Palestinians could not be blamed or described as terrorists, Mubarak said.
The Egyptian leader renewed his call for quickly holding an international conference on terrorism, warning that no country would be safe without such a conference.
On his part, Aznar stressed his support for Mubarak's call.
"Let's see what will happen, particularly as the world is now preoccupied with the September 11 attacks on the U.S." Aznar said.
