Egypt requests 7 seats for Africa in UNSC
Egypt-Regional, Politics, 11/1/2001
"Egypt requested seven seats for Africa in the expanded Security Council (SC), two seats of which will be permanent in rotation," said Egypt's permanent delegate to the United Nations (UN) Ambassador Ahmad Abul-Gheit.
In a statement he delivered before the UN General Assembly session dedicated to discuss reforming the SC, Abul-Gheit criticised holding unofficial secret meetings of the Security Council, a matter which rendered its official ones as sessions just to endorse decisions taken behind closed doors.
Abul-Gheit also slammed continued use of veto out of sheer interests and national visions that are not in line with the objectives of the International Organization set by the Founding Fathers.
