Justice minister renews Morocco's resolve to turn page and repair harm

Moroccan justice minister, Omar Azziman, renewed in Rabat on Wednesday Morocco's resolve to turn the page and repair harms, adding this major option was adopted by the late king Hassan II, consecrated by King Mohammed VI and is being translated into reality by the government.

The official, who was talking at the weekly question-time of the House of representatives (lower parliamentary chamber), said Morocco is resolved to promote openness, consolidate democracy, respect human rights and consecrate the rule of law. He went on that the Kingdom has covered in the last years courageous stages, which are a motive of pride and a historical asset, citing progress in sensitive issues like force disappearance and arbitrary detention.

He also recalled that the human rights advisory council (CCDH) has chosen to handle each case separately, recognize the state responsibility when necessary and compensate relatives of human rights breaches victims, while endeavoring not to mortgage the future at a time Morocco needs to undertake reforms, build the future, and take up challenges.

Regarding the Benbarka case, Azziman said this particular case is handled within the same approach despite its peculiarities and complexities, explaining part of the case is in the hands of the French justice as foreign persons were reportedly involved in kidnapping Mehdi Benbarka in France.

Meanwhile, he stressed, Morocco has positively answered the French judiciary assistance request, adding the case has other aspects related to revelations made in the media and that the complaint lodged by the Moroccan Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP) is currently under study.
