Morocco's industrial production index grows by 2.6% in first half of 2001

Morocco's industrial production index grew by 2.6% in the first half of 2001, compared to the corresponding period of 2000, says the statistics office.

The progression is mainly ascribed to the 10.5% improvement in the index of steel and electric and electronic industries. Other sectors which witnessed a growth in Jan-June 2000 are tobacco and beverages (2.9%), leather (8.1%), wood (11.9%), paper (3.5%) and chemical and para-chemical industries (5%).

Meanwhile, ready-to wear, rubber, plastic and other processing industries regressed by respectively 3.3%, 6.6% and 8.2%.

The statistics office also reports that the mining production index progressed by 3.8% while energy production index regressed by 0.3%.
