Palestinians: what matters is the signed agreements and the international resolutions
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 10/31/2001
Palestinian officials also spoke appreciatively of the open dialogue which president Mubarak held on Monday with al Azhar Ulemas in which he said no Palestinian Israeli negotiations are expected as long as Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon is still in power.
Speaking to Middle East News Agency, Palestinian planning and international cooperation minister Nabil Shaath said president Mubarak is against Israeli aggression on defenseless Palestinians and does not want a military solution to be imposed on the Palestinian authority.
Shaath praised the brave and principled stances President Mubarak is adopting in support of the Palestinian people.
On a declared meeting between Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat and Israeli foreign minister Shimon Peres in Spain on November 2, Shaath said no arrangements were made for such a meeting.
Arafat does not impose any ban on his meetings with any Israeli officials, he added.
The real problem lies in the Israeli side's failure to observe the signed agreements, he said.
On Peres's plan to set up a Palestinian state, Shaath said the Palestinian side has numerous plans and initiatives.
But what matters is the implementation of the signed agreements and the international resolutions, especially 242 and 338 and the "land for-peace" principle, he added.
