Maher stresses Egypt's firm support for Palestinians
Egypt-Palestine, Politics, 10/30/2001

Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmad Maher met late Monday with Palestinian Official in Charge of Al-Quds (Jerusalem) File, Sary Nasiba who succeeded late Faisal El-Husseini.

In statements following the meeting, the Palestinian official said that he familiarized Maher with the situation in the occupied territories and the Israeli siege imposed on Al Quds.

"Maher stressed the firm Egyptian stance in support of the Palestinian people and statehood," said Nasiba, adding that the two sides have agreed to hold more meetings and consultations.

Asked about Israeli schemes to mislead the world public opinion, Nasiba said that the issue focuses on an Israeli pullout of the occupied territories.

He hoped for a revival of the peace process as well as the activation of the US and European Union (EU) roles.

Asked whether the US is serious in laying pressures on Israel, Nasiba voiced belief that there are international political circumstances that could give birth to a new US role in the Middle East.

In press statements, Maher said that his meeting with Nasiba tackled the issue of Al-Quds.

He added that they also addressed the issue of restoring control over the Palestinian Orient House which was usurped by Israel.
