Mubarak inaugurates Oyoun Moussa Power Station

The Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak inauguratedon Monday Oyoun Moussa Power Generating Station which lies on the Western Coast of the Gulf of Suez, Twenty kilometers from Martyr Ahmed Hamdy tunnel.

The Station which is built on an area of 220 feddans costs L.E 1445 million and has a capacity of 640 megawatts.

The project is part of an ambitious scheme to settle around 3 million people in Sinai.

During the opening ceremony, also attended by Senior State Officials, Mubarak directed that all electricity grids and other development projects be competed according to relevant schedules.

The Oyoun Moussa plant is designed to fulfill needs of development projects in the area, including reclamation of vast tracts of land.

The President further directed that a water desalination plant, should be set up in the most suitable place in Sinai.

Earlier this month, Mubarak launched into service a major suspension bridge linking Sinai to the mainland.

Located west of Sinai Peninsula, the Oyoun Moussa plant has cost a total of 432 million dollars.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Electricity Minister Ali El-Saedi said that the capacity of the electricity-generating facilities in Sinai had risen from 26,000 kilowatts in 1981 to 1.7 million kilowatts at present.

He added that a total of LE 3.760 million had been spent an electricity in Sinai.

Meanwhile, President Mubarak conferred the prestigious Collar of the Nile on former Electricity Minister Maher Abaza in recognition of his role in developing the electricity sector when be was holding the post.
